DOWNTOWN
JACKSON
Jackson was named in 1894 after trapper David Edward “Davey” Jackson, who trapped beaver in the area in the late 1820s. At that time, people commonly used the word “hole” to describe a valley surrounded by high mountains, and the reason this valley got its name. Shops, restaurants, and attractions abound in this walkable, historic western town. Town Square and its famous antler arches are located in the middle of Jackson, surrounded by art galleries, historic hotels, and fun places to eat, shop, and enjoy nightlife. The Grand Dynamics’ Towner Tour and Jackson Hole Scavenger Hunt offer fun and interactive ways to explore the town.
